That's the Secret Life of Toys

Description

The Secret Life of Toys is one of my earliest memories of any of Jim Henson's work. Along with The Storyteller, SLoT was a highlight to every afternoon and I remember my brother and I watching it without fail. The great thing about it was they were just inanimate objects thrown around by children and left haphazardly around the room... and then the teddy bear would blink his eyes, the tiger's ears would twitch and they would all come alive.
Balthazar's "Alright everyone, they're gone" still sends shivers up my spine.

My favourite was always Mew... I don't know why, possibly because he was small and everyone underestimated him, and now I think I'm overanalysing.
Second came Hortense; because even though I was a determined tom-boy, all girls at that age are magically attracted to pink and ponies.
I only liked Raisin on princible - she was a girl in a dress and yet she could keep up with the boys, not like the china doll on the top shelf.
My brother maintained his love of Rugby and Ditz, and watching the avaliable clips on Youtube, I happen to now see the appeal. I particularly adore Rugby's accent. I have no idea where it's from, or even if it's an actual accent, but I love it!

When the show first appeared in my life, I became quite convinced that every toy in the world would get up and play games while I wasn't in the room. I'm sure that my parents worried when I would refuse to leave the room before giving my toys a wonderul adventure to have while I wasn't there (because some episodes they were quite convinced they were "Rugby the Great Magician" and similar) and I knocked on the door before entering after lunch because I didn't own a Bunny Lamp and didn't want any of them to be frozen forever.

Drawn because The Secret Life of Toys needs more love and I actually coloured this one by hand!

Raisin was one of my earliest childhood crushes I once claimed (as far as a 7-8 year old can) three different doll puppets from three different shows. Two of them are redheads. Raisin, Molly Coddle From Bump In The Night, and Molly from The Big Comfy Couch. There have been a few other characters since, and Molly Coddle still manages to fly with me to this day-- but these three are some of my earliest. It was basically them and young Velma from A Pup Named Scooby Doo that were my very first. Also noteworthy in that Raisin's outfit looks a little like Loopy's from Life With Loopy. Loopy was a later one for me, I no longer have the actual romantic crush on her I used to, Molly Coddle's the only one now, but creepy as fuck or not I'd still hit Loopy like a freight train if it were possible. Those little daisy buttons on her overall dress, that casually snarky attitude, yummy as fuck. I'd still date and marry and even have sex with Molly Coddle, but I would go straight up ANIMAL on Loopy, romantic feelings or not.
